Workshops to share proposals that guarantee digital rights

WS-01

Classroom 2

Equality and non-discrimination: gender

Barriers to access and use of ICTs at an early age, masculinization of the ICT sectors, bias and stereotypes linked to the future employment of women. We will put forward proposals to overcome the gender gap in the technology sector, such as promoting STEAM vocations at an early age, guaranteeing the critical and responsible use of ICTs and avoiding inequality in digital environments.
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

lydia brook
Sociologist and Researcher in Gender and ICT

WS-02

Classroom 3

Equality and non-discrimination: migrants

ICTs can be one more element in the exclusion of some groups due to their culture, ethnicity and origin, which adds more difficulties in their social integration and in access to education, health or social participation. How to guarantee access to these services if people do not have the resources or skills to interact with the tools that are designed?
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

Coordinator of the Department of Alliances, Incidents and Innovation at Fundación Cepaim

room 4

Universal accessibility: people with disabilities

In a world in which more and more processes are mediated in digital environments, the lack of accessibility means that not everyone can enjoy access to education, employment , health or citizen participation , fundamental elements in a society of welfare. We analyze the need to implement the principles of universal design in systems and services aimed at citizens if we want to guarantee a society with full rights , insisting that it is something that benefits everyone and not just people with disabilities.
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

WS-04

Classroom 5

Employability

The absence of digital competence makes it very difficult to develop many jobs and also to access the search and application processes, both for older profiles, low qualifications or long-term unemployment. We examine the situation by putting the exclusion factors that can be improved to strengthen access to employment for the most vulnerable groups, insisting on the need for people as professionals to renew and update their skills throughout their lives.
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

Anthony Llorente
General Director of La Rueca Association

Classroom 6

Child and youth protection

On November 20, 1989, when very few children and young people had access to a computer, the Convention on the Rights of the Child was approved. We can assume, therefore, that the digital rights are not included in it. We suggest you take a short tour of some of the most related rights and ask ourselves how they could be updated to the current reality.
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

Marc Alcaraz
Head of studies at the Fundesplai Training Center

Classroom 7

Environmental impact and sustainability

We are talking about controlling the times of use, turning off devices during times of inactivity, choosing electronic devices that are more energy efficient or manufactured by socially and environmentally responsible companies, following the correct recycling guidelines when we dispose of devices and/or batteries, analyzing our consumption habits and not fall into the traps imposed by planned obsolescence and the aggressive marketing of companies that encourage us to renew our devices every year or even less. But also the transformative potential of digital technologies to protect and improve the environment, helping to consume fewer natural resources, for example, facilitating more responsible lifestyles or protecting biodiversity. How do we do it so that the development of technology and digital environments pursues environmental sustainability and commitment to future generations? Can digital technologies help us live and consume in a way that respects the sustainability of both societies and the environment?

This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

Carles Xifra
Director of Innovation and Content at Fundesplai

WS-07

room 8

Elderly people and health protection

The elderly are one of the groups most affected by the digital divide and therefore the most excluded in a society in which access to public and private services, leisure, education and so many other things use digital procedures and systems. To the difficulties that are often added to the aging process, there is a world that not only they do not understand but in which they often cannot interact enjoying the benefits that digital brings since they feel insecurity and fear. We discussed the need to accompany older people in the transition by allowing and how to ensure that they enjoy the opportunities of the digital environment and the benefits of the welfare society.
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

room 9

Access gaps: ruralities

Depopulation and the added difficulties regarding connection and access to basic digital services that affect people who live in rural areas are problems that threaten digital and fundamental rights of the people who inhabit these localities and that impacts local and regional economies, limiting their growth possibilities. We address the main impediments that people living in rural areas face and how to offer support, in addition to proposing policies and proposals so that they benefit from the possibilities of technology.
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

Juan Luis Cruz-Navarro

WS-09

room 10

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is increasingly present in all kinds of decision-making processes, access to services and use of technology and information provided to citizens from public and private environments. We discussed how Artificial Intelligence should and can ensure a person-centered approach, pursuing the common good. How can we intervene in making Artificial Intelligence more accessible, reliable and understandable, and how can we make citizens aware of their right to request supervision and challenge automated decisions.
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

Classroom 11

Internet governance and citizen participation

The Internet governance includes processes and rules to define the management of the Internet that includes all the elements of a society totally mediated by the use of technology and data management that are often used outside the fundamental rights of citizens. It is essential in democracy to guarantee citizen participation, moving from ICTs to TEPs (Empowerment and Participation Technologies), full and effective access to information and transparency in public and private accountability. we discussed about what can we do as citizens and what can we demand from governments and private companies to be owners of our data, in a society in which the economic engine is fueled by our personal and vital information and in which we must reflect on the concept of free of many digital services.
This workshop will be taught entirely in Spanish (ES).

Director at School of Public Administration of Catalonia

Classroom 12

Digital skills for employability

In this workshop, participants will join in a discussion on the role of digital education for social inclusion. The digital transformation affects all parts of our societies, from industry, democratic participation, accessing services, to education itself. As much as recent years have seen a rise in the proliferation of online hate-speech and disinformation, as well as an increasing digital divide, innovative digital technologies also carry a huge potential to bridge gaps, enable access to societal participation and furthering social inclusion. Their success, however, depends on the provision of adequate digital education, both in the sense of developing digital competences as well as education through digital means. A focus for this workshop will thereby be on identifying the existing barriers for digital education from a social inclusion perspective, drawing on participants’ experiences.
This workshop will be taught entirely in English (EN).
